Getting into college is only the beginning. Once classes begin, students quickly find that they are expected to manage classes, prerequisites, registration dates, deadlines, finances, and a lot of everyday decisions largely on their own. Sometimes the challenge is simply knowing when to ask for help. Other times, one missed requirement, an overloaded semester, or a poorly planned course sequence can make college harder and more expensive than it needs to be. Ridgeline Advising helps students prepare for that transition before the first semester begins and provides personal planning and support once college is underway.
College Survival and Success Summer Program
College-Level Planning and Advising
College Survival and Success Summer Program - Getting into college is one thing; knowing how to manage college once you get there is another. Over the years, while helping students, I found that some of the things that made the biggest difference were not things anyone really taught them. Knowing when to ask for help, finding study partners and mentors, figuring out how you actually study best, and planning your time before the semester gets away from you can make a big difference. So can knowing how to handle schedule problems, keeping costs under control, and learning how to use tools like AI without letting them do the learning for you. This small, in-person summer program is designed for incoming college freshmen before the fall semester begins. The goal is not to tell students how to do college, but to give them practical ideas, examples, and strategies they can use when they are on their own. The program is intended for small groups, with one-on-one sessions also available

College-Level Planning and Advising - Every college student is assigned an academic advisor, and some students develop a great relationship with theirs. However, college advisors often have many students to help, and there may not always be time to look closely at every choice a student is making. Course requirements, prerequisites, registration dates, degree audits, transfer credits, forms, financial decisions, and graduation timelines can all get confusing. Sometimes a summer class can keep one prerequisite from holding up an entire degree plan. Other times, trying to take 22 credit hours of difficult classes just to stay on schedule may do more harm than good. And something as simple as missing a deadline can add an extra semester and a lot of unnecessary expense.
Ridgeline Advising does not replace the student’s college advisor. Instead, I provide another set of eyes and a more personal level of support, helping students think through their options, prepare the right questions to ask, stay organized, and make decisions with both graduation and cost in mind. College-Level Planning and Advising is available through prearranged online appointments, giving students a convenient way to talk through questions and decisions as they come up.
